Action Officer Course

Course Description

The Action Officer course is offered by Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) with support from the Secretary of War (OSW). The Action Officer course is designed for all civilian, contractor, and military members who prepare written correspondence for OSW and WHS Senior Leaders. This training is ideal for new staff members or anyone who needs a refresher on preparing correspondence that meets Department of War standards as outlined in the "Manual for Written Material" (DoD 5110.4-M).

The Action Officer course will also cover:

• An overview of the OSW organizational structure.

• The role and responsibilities of an Action Officer.

• Writing standards for the OSW.

• Best practices for preparing and coordinating correspondence.

• Guest speakers from ExecSec, Pentagon Library, and more  

 

Course Schedule

The OSW Action Officer Course training schedule is posted at https://dod365.sharepoint-mil.us/sites/WHS-HRD-TD/SitePages/AO.aspx. Courses tend to fill up several weeks before the start date. Each course accommodates 35 participants. The AO Course is typically offered monthly via three 3-hour segments (Mon, Tues & Thurs 09:00-12:00).
